Past and future entered the same frame in Yuyuan. Traditional architecture filled the foreground, while Shanghai Tower rose behind it through the clouds. What interested me was not a contest between old and new, but the way both could occupy one view.
Shanghai seemed to layer history, culture, infrastructure and technology rather than simply replace one with another. That is my impression from this evening walk, not a technical assessment of the buildings. Tonight I was looking up; the next view would be from above.
