어릴 때 사이버펑크 영화에서 보던 도시가 있었습니다. 항저우 호텔에 체크인하고 나니 그 풍경이 창밖에 있더군요. 머큐어 항저우 첸장 54층에서, 예상보다 훨씬 오래 창밖을 바라봤습니다.
아래에는 황금빛 구 모양의 인터컨티넨탈 항저우 ICC와 은빛 곡선의 항저우 대극장이 보였습니다. 건물 외벽은 움직이는 화면이 되고, 첸탕강에는 빛이 일렁였습니다. 머무는 동안 드론도 밤하늘에 또 하나의 풍경을 더했습니다.
위에서는 도시의 구성이 보이고, 강변에서는 그 규모가 느껴집니다. 누군가는 이 장면을 상상했고, 많은 디자이너와 엔지니어, 현장 인력이 현실로 만들었겠지요. 서호로 알던 항저우에서 이렇게 창밖을 오래 볼 줄은 몰랐습니다. 영화에 빠져 있던 어린 시절의 저라면 밤을 새웠을 겁니다. 도시를 여행하며 남긴 감상이지, 조명 시스템의 기술 성능을 검증한 기록은 아닙니다.

I grew up watching cities like this in cyberpunk films. Then I checked into a hotel in Hangzhou. 🌃 I’m Henry, from Korea—and this was my view from the 54th floor of Mercure Hangzhou Qianjiang. That glowing golden sphere below? The InterContinental Hangzhou ICC. Beside it, the silver curves of Hangzhou Grand Theatre. A sun and moon on the waterfront. Across Qianjiang New City, building façades become a moving canvas. Down by the Qiantang River, the colours ripple across the water. During my stay, drones added another layer to the night sky. From above, you see how it all fits together. From the riverbank, you feel the scale. Respect to the designers, engineers and crews behind these displays. Someone imagined this view. A lot of people worked to make it happen. I knew Hangzhou was famous for West Lake. I didn’t know I’d spend this much time staring out of a window. The kid who loved those films would have stayed up all night.
