Inside AI Matrix Store in Zhangjiang, Shanghai, humanoid displays, robot dogs and a robotic ice cream kiosk bring that question into a consumer-facing setting. My visit moved between robots on display, machines alongside visitors and an interface connecting a familiar product—ice cream—to a robotic system. That shift matters. People approach technology differently when it connects to something they already understand. A screen invites a selection. A robot dog attracts attention. An ice cream kiosk gives automation a familiar purpose. These encounters offer a place to observe how people respond: whether they approach, understand the interface, need assistance or move on. But each scene supports a different conclusion. A humanoid on display shows what visitors can encounter. A robot moving nearby reveals behavior under those conditions. A kiosk with an ordering interface shows a proposed service workflow. Assessing sustained deployment requires following that workflow further: completed orders → human intervention → uptime → operating cost → repeat demand A short visit captures part of this picture. It leaves open how consistently the machines perform, how much support they require and whether the service works economically over time.
