Service robots in China: tasks, people and operating limits
What can a short visit tell us about a robot service?
It can record the task shown, the setting and the human activity visible during the visit. It cannot establish a full day's reliability or the frequency of intervention. These records cover ice cream, coffee, food service, massage and cooking; different tasks are not a common performance ranking.
The Shanghai DQ and AlphaBot records are linked to bounded observations dated 2026-09-01. Other entries retain their own date evidence and limitations. For a deployment decision, ask who handles replenishment, cleaning, exceptions and maintenance, and request operating records over a defined period.

At SPACELAB in Shanghai's Super Brand Mall, the space above the tables became part of lunch. Dishes travelled along an overhead delivery system, turning a small piece of restaurant work into something visitors could watch.
Human and robot: sharing massage work
At SOOTHING in Shanghai's BFC, I experienced a massage shared by a practitioner and a NetEase-branded robot. For part of the session, they worked at the same time. The robot's repetitive movements felt warm to me; the practitioner handled finer, more delicate work.
Robot cooking: lunch in Hangzhou
A familiar menu, an unfamiliar kitchen. On September 7 I stopped for lunch at the Twenty-Four Solar Terms West Lake Cuisine Robot Restaurant in Hangzhou's Wensan district. Behind glass were a robotic arm, cooking equipment and a control screen. Outside were tables, customers and the ordinary reason for visiting a restaurant: lunch.
